Home Trends 2025: Embracing the Old, Revamping the Sleep Scene, and Going Green
- Jun 4, 2025
As summer rolls around, home projects are shifting gears. Whether it's installing chicken coops or restoring hardwood floors, a tendency towards upgrading personal spaces to fit individual lifestyle requirements and preferences is increasingly evident. This insight comes after Yelp publicized its top 2025 home and outdoor trends, extracted from search data from the first quarter of the year.
Rather than altering the unique and peculiar characteristics of a house, such as painting over marble countertops or masking historic fireplaces, homeowners are now more inclined towards restoration, says Yelp. Key indicators of this trend include a 29 percent hike in searches for carpet removal, with the aim of revealing original hardwood floors. Likewise, fireplace services have seen an upward trend, soaring by 35 percent.
Yelp's data also revealed that both homeowners and renters are seeking the help of professionals to inject vibrancy into their living spaces. This is demonstrated by increasing searches for colorful stained glass (by 50 percent), mosaic tiles (by 52 percent), statement wallpapers (by 18 percent), among other elements.
Suggesting easy ways to keep up with this trend, Yelp's expert, Tara Lewis notes that even contemporary homes can embrace these vintage elements. She recommends services that can "add personality-filled touches to your home, like stick-on stained glass accents, patterned wallpapering, or faux crown molding."
Sleep hygiene is also emerging as a significant priority, with the transformation of bedrooms into calming, wellness-oriented sleep sanctuaries. These spaces are designed to not only improve rest but also escalate property value. In particular, searches for mattress stores and pillow stores increased by 25 percent and 69 percent, respectively. Additionally, bedroom remodeling projects have witnessed a skyrocketing surge, greater than 1,108 percent over the previous year.

Further augmenting this trend are soundproofing services (up 137 percent) and HVAC maintenance (up 46 percent). Minor additions, such as blackout curtains (up 219 percent) and air purifiers (up 325 percent), also contribute to this, enhancing sleep quality by reducing noise and air pollution.
In terms of home entertainment, more and more homeowners are transforming additional rooms into home theaters, gaming rooms, or art studios. The data suggests a 155 percent rise in searches for basement remodels and a 120 percent hike for pool tables. Searches for high-quality home theater and sound system installations have also increased by 89 percent.
Alongside, homesteading or sustainable living practices are gaining traction. With Yelp reporting an uplift in searches for plant nurseries (by 58 percent) and live chickens for sale (up 424 percent), it seems apparent that individuals are seeking ways to be more self-sufficient and rely less on fluctuating food costs and disrupted supply chains.
Moreover, as spending on significant renovations seems to wane, homeowners and renters are expressing interest in cost-effective enhancements. Yelp reports an increase in searches for hardware replacements for cabinets and doors (up 91 percent), and for salvaged furniture and decor at thrift stores and antique markets (up by 42 and 33 percent, respectively).
Lastly, with extreme weather events becoming all too common, homeowners are investing more in storm-proofing and fire-hardening. This trend is marked by a 63 percent surge in searches for hurricane shutters and a 49 percent rise for fire protection services. Furthermore, energy-saving searches such as for solar panel installations (up 3,534 percent), home energy auditors (up 91 percent), and EV charging station installations (up 158 percent) are on the increase, further emphasizing the shift towards environment-friendly and sustainable living solutions.
